For the last 3 years, I’ve been struggling with the day to day of how to manage side hustle vs. career. I’ve very often played my cards close to my chest. I’ve kept my side hustles to myself, and for the most part I’ve never talked much about them to my coworkers. I was new to Corporate America, and I didn’t want to do anything to “sacrifice” my job – a truly great job that I was reminded repeatedly by people in my family that I was lucky to have (and they weren’t wrong).
Fast forward to now, where I’m still working that full-time corporate job, but I’m also working on something that I’m extremely passionate about with my time outside of “work”. When you have that sort of passion, I don’t think you should keep it to yourself. In fact, I think it’s selfish to keep it to yourself. I think you’re obligated to share it with people, because otherwise you’re not serving anyone. You never know what sort of impact you can have on someone’s life.
Building Learn Grow Earn has been an incredibly exciting learning experience for me, and I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings. LGE started as a podcast, but it’s much more than that. It’s a growing community of like-minded people striving for daily improvement in all aspects of their lives. Although the vision has been sort of pieced together as we go, it’s something that I can 1000000% get behind.
Well, after many months of work behind the scenes, and 2 months of official podcasting under my belt, I wanted to finally declare it to the world. It was one of my first actions towards the goal of “being unapologetically myself” in 2017. So I did what any normal 26 year old would do… I added it to my LinkedIn profile. That’s about as official as it gets, right?
This was PETRIFYING for me because like I mentioned, no one at work knew anything about what I was working on. To add to that, when LinkedIn posted the update, it listed me as “formerly at (my current company)”, so coworkers thought I had left. Those were a few awkward message exchanges lol. In the end (surprise surprise) it worked out ok.
“Great story Mike, but what the heck is the update?!”
Let’s get into it.
Various parts of LGE have been rapidly changing in attempt to best serve the community. Thus far, this “blog” has served one purpose – to house the podcast episodes that come out every Monday. That’s no longer the case. I’ve alluded to this in various Facebook Live posts (and if we’re not connected on there, please go give it a like 😃), but this is the official launch of the LGE Blog. I’ll personally be posting 1 blog per week, and in the coming weeks we’ll also be integrating some guest blogging into the site. BTW – if you’re interested in guest blogging, shoot me an email at email@example.com.
There are a few reasons for this blog. First of all, and most importantly, I felt it was another solid way to get you guys some cool information about things I’ve struggled with, learned from, etc. that hopefully can provide some value. Secondly, I selfishly want to improve on my writing, because up until now I’ve basically written nothing but lab reports in college. With that said, I appreciate you taking the time to read this, because I understand that it may be a bit painful. Thirdly, I knew it was something I needed to do to help grow the LGE brand and hopefully help more people. So, I included weekly posts in my 12 week reverse bet to start 2017 – maybe that’ll be another blog post in the future.
- Podcast episode posted every Monday.
- One blog post per week from me.
- Sporadic guest blogging (coming soon…)
Oh and I’m also very active on Instagram, so if you’re over there check out the LGE page.
Let me know in the comments what you guys are working on that you’re super passionate about!
Thanks for taking the time to read. It means more than you think.
- You never know what sort of impact you can have on someone’s life, so share your passion.
- I’ll be posting one blog per week.
